If we teach our children at an early age that differences make friendships stronger, that people can learn so much from each other when coming from different backgrounds, cultures, races and religions, we will be raising inclusive and tolerant human beings.
We, parents and educators need to promote diverse friendship, specially because this is what our children will be experiencing at school, an audience that is becoming more and more diverse.
Julie Kratz and Simone Morris, authors of “Charlotte wants a BFF”, are parents who are passionate about creating an inclusive world, and their book reflects a story of two girls from different races and backgrounds who learned a great life lesson when they became friends. They learned to embrace their differences, and understand each other. Throughout the story, they also learned how important it is to work on your friendships.
This story will show our children that it is ok to befriend other kids that don’t share the same physical characteristics, this book will model to our children that it is ok to be inclusive when we make friends.
